Who I Am and What I Write

The power of the mind intrigues me – dark thoughts behind a smiling face… the mind controlling the person rather than the person controlling their mind… the little bit of crazy that lurks inside us all. Delving into the psyche’s deepest secrets, I write character-driven stories that bridge upmarket women’s fiction and psychological drama.

My passion for writing is fueled by my tumbleweed lifestyle, having resided in a bustling city, quaint mountain town, tightknit farming community, and a dank trailer in the middle of the forest. When I am not pouring over my laptop bringing characters to life, I can be found munching on a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie in the comfort of my home, entering my latest pie creation in a pie-baking contest, or driving across the continent with my young family and our camper in search of adventure.

NOVELS

My novels are borne from moments of my life, intertwined with asking “what if” from personal experiences and the stories of others. An expensive Scotch, the undying energy of my old dog, watching my husband burst out the door on another police call-out, all inspire me to add texture to my stories. Every novel I write gives me a gift. One novel is therapeutic as I struggle through challenges of life; another opens my heart to deeper love and understanding of others; while another introduces me to the world of poetry, opera, and jazz music.

SHORT STORIES

I look for inspiration in everyday life, whether it is watching a lady dance an erratic jig while swatting a swarm of wasps, or figuring out how I’m going to make it to the phone when my back has left me in a crumpled heap on the kitchen floor. Quite often, after I type my last word, I sit back and smile, knowing that the story has opened a door that will lead me down the path of another novel journey.
